Find Every WHS Compliance Gap Before a Regulator Does

Enviro Corp's WHS gap assessment benchmarks your current workplace health and safety practices against WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and ISO 45001 — backed by 20+ years of senior consultant experience.

Most organisations run a gap assessment before a certification audit, after an incident or near-miss, when WHS duties change, or on an annual cycle to catch drift before it becomes a breach.

What is a WHS gap assessment?

A WHS gap assessment is a documented review comparing your organisation's current work health and safety practices, systems, and documentation against your legal obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act, associated Regulations, and relevant Codes of Practice — plus any voluntary standard you're pursuing, such as ISO 45001.

The output isn't a pass/fail score. It's a prioritised gap register — missing procedures, expired training, unassessed hazards, incomplete consultation records — each rated by risk and mapped to the clause or duty it relates to, so you know exactly what to fix first.

Most Enviro Corp clients run a gap assessment before a certification audit, after an incident or near-miss, when WHS duties change, or on an annual cycle to catch drift before it becomes a breach.

Our Process

Four stages, one gap register

A structured, on-site methodology built on 20+ years of environmental and WHS consulting.

01

Scope

We confirm sites, work groups, contractors, and which standards apply — WHS Act & Regulations, industry codes, or ISO 45001.

02

Evidence

Policies, SWMS, risk registers, training records and consultation minutes are checked against what's happening on the floor.

03

Score

Each finding is mapped to a specific duty or clause and rated critical, moderate, or minor by legal exposure and injury likelihood.

04

Report

You receive a prioritised gap register with owners, timeframes, and evidence required to close each item.

FAQ

Common questions

How is a WHS gap assessment different from a WHS audit?

An audit tests whether an existing management system is being followed and produces a conformance score. A gap assessment compares current practice to the legal and standards baseline — usually the right starting point before a system is mature enough to audit.

Do we need this if we already have a safety management system?

Yes, if it hasn't been benchmarked recently. New sites, equipment, staff turnover, and regulatory updates all create gaps that surface only during an inspection, insurance review, or incident investigation.

What do we receive at the end?

A gap register listing every finding, the related duty or clause, a risk rating, a recommended action, and a suggested owner and timeframe, plus an executive summary for leadership.

Does this satisfy officer due diligence obligations?

It provides strong evidence that officers are actively verifying WHS compliance, and should complement — not replace — ongoing consultation, resourcing, and monitoring duties under the WHS Act.

How often should a gap assessment be repeated?

Annually is standard, with an additional assessment after major change: a new site, new plant, a notifiable incident, or an update to the Regulations or Code of Practice.
